On Friday, April 16, 2026 we received an email from Rick Parent, W0ZAP. POTA President/CEO asking that we please refrain from labeling our Florida state event as a “contest” or referring to “contestants” in our promotion of the state event. The committee managing this event unanimously agreed that this was an appropriate request and over the weekend the pages on our website have been edited to now refer to this as the Florida State Parks on the Air Event. Going forward, all future documents and promotional materials will only refer to this event as an “event”. We will continue to solicit log entries from “participants” and we will score those entries according to the “event” rules. Certificates of Achievement and other recognitions will be award to the high scorers in each rules category. Just please remember the this is not a “contest” and only your participation is being recognized.

Question: If FL ST POTA Weekend isn’t a CONTEST, just an OPERATING EVENT like all other POTA activations (but in a more coordinated sense), why can’t we use the WARC bands like we can for normal POTA activations? I realize that this may not have come up yet, or that a change to the rules days before the event would have been impractical, but perhaps for 2027 that rule about not using the WARC bands could be changed or deleted? Thanks for all of your efforts and coordination to make this event happen! 73, W9TCV

Hi Eric:
You are not the first person to ask this question. There have already been several others and we asked ourselves the same thing too. The answer is:We have a number of lessons learned from this event already and there will probably be many more as scoring is done and results are published in early May. We will be reviewing all aspects of this event for 2027 with the goal of making it better, more fun, and easier to participate and manage. Stay tuned for updates as we publish them.
